Sustainability Strategy

  1.   Assessment

1.a. Environmental Impact

Net1on1 Wholesale Limited, a dynamic distributor and manufacturer operating in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, has systematically evaluated our current environmental footprint. As we navigate the path of growth, we recognize that our expansion inevitably influences key sustainability indicators such as carbon footprint, waste generation, and E-Waste. This thorough assessment underscores our commitment to understanding and managing the environmental impacts associated with our operations.

In response to these findings, we are dedicated to adopting strategic practices that proactively address the environmental challenges posed by our business growth. By implementing effective measures, we aim to not only manage but also reduce our overall environmental impact. Our goal is to steer the company towards sustainability by incorporating practices that align with our commitment to environmental responsibility and ensure that our operations maintain a minimal environmental footprint.

1.b. Social Practices

Net1on1 Wholesale Limited, as a family-run business, the essence of family runs through our organisational framework. Our commitment is our dedication to fostering a workplace culture that echoes the inclusivity and support. Our approach to social practices is particularly evident in our employee-centric initiatives.

In our role as a distributor and manufacturer, our commitment to social practices takes a tangible form in the ethical and sustainable sourcing of products. We align ourselves with industry-leading brands that share our values, boasting their own comprehensive sustainability strategies and targets.

1.c. Economic Performance

Net1on1 has witnessed remarkable revenue growth over the past few years, contributing to enhanced profitability in a challenging market environment. This growth can be attributed to strategic initiatives such as the introduction of new, cost-effective products with higher margins, expanding our team, and venturing into new regions.

While sustained growth is a positive indicator, it does pose management challenges, and careful attention is required to navigate potential cash flow issues. To address this, we have implemented proactive measures, including offering pre-payment incentives to our customers and establishing partnerships with Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) providers tailored for businesses. These initiatives have proven effective in maintaining financial stability.

Looking ahead, a notable concern on the horizon is the anticipated rise in raw material costs, increased shipping expenses, and logistics costs. Recognizing the potential cascading impact of these factors, our focus is on developing strategies to mitigate these challenges to the greatest extent possible. This forward-thinking approach aligns with our commitment to adaptability and resilience in the face of evolving market dynamics.

  1.   Objectives

2.a. Environmental Impact

2.a.a. Carbon Footprint Reduction

In our pursuit of minimising environmental impact, Net1on1 Wholesale Limited is committed to further reduce our carbon footprint. The primary contributors to our carbon emissions stem from transportation, encompassing car, rail, and air travel associated with supplier and customer visits, as well as attendance at trade shows. We also ship goods across the UK and Holland using a variety of different logistic companies.

To address this, we envision a tangible reduction in car emissions by transitioning our sales representatives’ vehicles to electric cars wherever feasible. We will also explore new logistics partners who share our values in sustainability. This shift aligns with our aspiration to embrace sustainable practices and reduce our overall carbon output.

Acknowledging the necessity of air travel for trade shows, customer relations, supplier engagements, and factory audits, we recognize the environmental implications. Therefore, our objective is to explore eco-friendly alternatives, specifically favouring train travel over cars and planes whenever practical. This strategic shift aligns seamlessly with our dedication to meticulously manage our environmental impact while championing sustainable business practices.

By pursuing these initiatives, we aim not only to meet but to exceed our carbon reduction goals, showcasing a genuine commitment to environmental responsibility and fostering a greener, more sustainable future.

2.a.b. Reduce Packaging Waste

Our dedication to mitigating packaging waste revolves around a tri-fold strategy aimed at minimising environmental impact and fostering economic efficiency. We are resolute in our commitment to:

1.Downsizing and Recyclable Materials:
  •         Reduction in Size: Endeavouring to diminish the size of product packaging significantly, with a particular focus on optimising the die-cut of packaging to be as small as possible.
  •         Eliminating Plastics: Aiming for a complete removal of plastics from our packaging materials, making every product packaging fully recyclable.
2.Economic Efficiency through Reduced Cardboard Usage:
  •         Production Optimization: Implementing changes to product packaging for each product once the Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) of 1000 units is met.
  •         Shipping Cost Reduction: By reducing cardboard usage, we not only contribute to sustainability but also actively decrease shipping costs, aligning with our economic goal of increasing profitability.
3.QR Code Integration and Instruction Optimization:
  •         Eliminating Printed Manuals: Introducing a QR code to select product packaging, eliminating the need for traditional product manuals inside the box.
  •         On-Packaging Instructions: When necessary, printing essential instructions directly on the product packaging itself, further reducing the need for additional paper waste.

This comprehensive approach not only underscores our commitment to environmental responsibility but also strategically aligns with our economic goals. By adopting these measures, we aim to set a new standard in conscientious packaging practices, showcasing our dedication to sustainability and economic efficiency while embracing innovative solutions for waste reduction.

2.a.c. Manage E-Waste

Our commitment is to achieve a comprehensive reduction in e-waste within the next 2 years, aligning with our broader sustainability objectives and promoting responsible environmental practices. This objective will be achieved through the following strategic actions:

1.Thorough Inventory and Identification

Conduct a meticulous inventory of electronic equipment across our operations to identify any excess or waste.

Utilise this inventory to pinpoint electronic devices that are approaching the end of their lifecycle or are no longer in active use.

2.Strategic Partnerships for Responsible Disposal

Establish stronger partnerships with certified e-waste recycling facilities to ensure the proper disposal and recycling of identified electronic waste. Working closer with VEOLIA waste management services we hope to be able to become more efficient and effective in our business waste management.

Explore collaboration with reuse and donation programs for electronic devices nearing the end of their life, benefiting local communities.

3.Employee Device Transition

Initiate a transition strategy to reduce electronic waste by encouraging employees to use their personal mobile phones, where feasible.

Explore the feasibility of transitioning from individual headsets to a centralised headset attached to computers, minimising electronic waste.

4.Regulatory Compliance and Sustainable Practices:

Develop and implement a sustainable E-Waste management framework that adheres to regulatory requirements.

Integrate responsible business practices into our approach, ensuring that the disposal and handling of electronic waste through VEOLIA reflect our commitment to environmental stewardship.

5.Continuous Monitoring and Improvement:

Implement a system for ongoing monitoring and assessment of our e-waste reduction efforts.

Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in reducing electronic waste and enhancing our sustainability practices.

This objective is designed to reflect our dedication to minimising the environmental impact associated with electronic waste. By establishing a sustainable e-waste management framework, we aim to contribute to a circular economy and underscore our commitment to responsible business practices and environmental stewardship.

2.b. Social Practices

2.b.a. Enhance Employee Well-being

As a family-run business, our foremost objective is to cultivate a workplace culture that places the well-being of our employees at the core. We aspire to foster a positive and supportive environment that champions both physical and mental health, nurtures job satisfaction, and cultivates a harmonious work-life balance. To actualize this vision, we have instituted flexible work arrangements tailored to accommodate our staff’s individual needs, fostering a healthier work environment.

In our commitment to continuous improvement, we recognize the pivotal role of professional development in employee well-being. We actively provide opportunities for growth through training, skill-building programs, and financial support for courses that enhance job proficiency and contribute to individual career progression.

Concurrently, a dedicated focus on ergonomic excellence underscores our dedication to the physical comfort of our employees. Through ongoing assessments and investments in ergonomic solutions such as stand-up desks and back supports, we prioritise creating a workspace that supports the long-term health and well-being of our team.

We firmly believe that employee well-being is not just desirable but essential for the sustained success of any company. This conviction is exemplified by our exceptionally low staff turnover, a testament to the paramount importance we place on employee satisfaction within our organisational ethos. Our commitment to enhancing employee well-being serves as a cornerstone in shaping a workplace where individuals thrive both personally and professionally.

2.b.b. Sustainable Supplier Assessment

Develop and implement sustainability supplier self-assessment forms created by Net1on1 Wholesale Limited within the next month. Use these forms to evaluate suppliers, ensuring adherence to the highest standards.

Annually visit selected factories to conduct thorough assessments using the developed self-assessment forms. Measure supplier compliance with the established standards and track improvements over time.

Collaborate closely with suppliers to guide them through the self-assessment process. In cases where standards are not met, work collaboratively with suppliers to establish actionable steps for improvement, providing necessary support and resources.

Aligning with our commitment to environmental responsibility and ethical business practices, this objective reinforces our dedication to sustainability in the supply chain. It ensures that our suppliers consistently meet and exceed our high standards, contributing to our overall corporate sustainability goals.

Complete the first round of supplier assessments within the next 12 months, with ongoing annual assessments thereafter. This proactive approach ensures continuous improvement and reinforces our commitment to sustainability in the supply chain. Regularly review progress and adjust the assessment process as needed.

2.c. Economic Performance

In response to escalating expenses across various areas, our primary objective is to proactively minimise increased costs. To achieve this, we will implement the following strategies:

1. Financial Data Analysis

Regularly analyse financial data to track and measure the impact of increased costs, identifying areas for optimization.

2. Supplier Collaboration and Contract Negotiation

Collaborate with existing suppliers to negotiate contracts, fostering mutually beneficial agreements.

Explore partnerships with new suppliers, if necessary, to ensure cost-effectiveness without compromising quality.

3. Packaging Optimisation

Reduce packaging size and minimise the use of plastics to lower packaging costs.

4. Operational Efficiency Exploration

Continuously explore new options for warehousing, courier services, and packaging suppliers to identify cost-efficient alternatives.

Our main goal is to ensure that overall costs do not increase by more than 3% in the upcoming financial year. This objective reflects our commitment to financial prudence, operational efficiency, and strategic cost management, ensuring the sustainability and profitability of our business in the face of economic challenges. Regular assessments and proactive measures will contribute to maintaining a lean and resilient financial position.

3. Engagement

As environmental and ethical considerations become more pivotal for customers, we aim to deepen their engagement in our sustainability strategy. By transparently communicating our eco-friendly practices through packaging, online platforms, and marketing channels, we seek to instil confidence in our customers. Regular feedback gathered by our sales representatives ensures that our sustainability initiatives align with customer expectations and preferences.

For our employees, the commitment to being a socially and environmentally responsible company is paramount. We actively share our sustainability goals with the entire workforce, providing them access to our comprehensive sustainability strategy. Employees are encouraged to actively contribute to our sustainability efforts, fostering a collaborative approach towards a greener future.

Recognizing the evolving expectations of our suppliers, we understand the growing importance of sustainability practices within the manufacturing sector. Embracing a bottom-up approach, our suppliers actively assess and improve their sustainability practices. They are well-informed about our sustainability expectations and are encouraged to explore innovative ways to manufacture our products more sustainably.

In essence, our sustainability engagement strategy involves transparent communication, active collaboration, and a shared commitment to creating positive environmental and ethical impacts across our entire stakeholder ecosystem. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement and shared responsibility, we collectively contribute to a more sustainable and responsible business environment.

4. Environmental Sustainability

4.a. Carbon Footprint Management

In our commitment to environmental sustainability, we are implementing transformative changes within our organisation to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. One of the impactful initiatives spearheading this change involves a fundamental shift in our vehicle fleet strategy.

Recognizing the environmental implications associated with traditional diesel and petrol cars, we have undertaken a bold step by transitioning our fleet to electric cars. This strategic move reflects our dedication to adopting cleaner and more sustainable transportation alternatives. Electric cars not only reduce harmful emissions but also contribute to the global effort to combat climate change by promoting the use of renewable energy sources.

This shift aligns seamlessly with our broader sustainability goals, emphasising the importance of responsible business practices. By embracing electric vehicles, we aim to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of sustainable transportation solutions in a corporate setting. Through this initiative, we not only contribute to the global imperative of reducing carbon emissions but also encourage the adoption of eco-friendly practices within our industry.

Moreover, our commitment extends beyond vehicular changes. We are actively exploring and implementing additional measures to optimise energy efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance resource conservation throughout our operations. Through regular assessments, we monitor and measure the impact of these initiatives on our carbon footprint.

In addition, we have implemented a carbon offset initiative in collaboration with moretrees.eco. This program involves tree planting activities in various countries worldwide, such as Kenya, Madagascar, Nepal, Honduras, and the Philippines. Moreover, we extend the opportunity for our customers to participate in this initiative during the checkout process on our website, aiming to inspire our stakeholders to join us on the path towards greater sustainability.

We understand that the journey toward sustainability is ongoing, and as such, we remain dedicated to continually identifying and adopting innovative strategies that align with our environmental stewardship objectives.

4.b. Sustainable Packaging

We recognize the integral role that packaging plays in minimising our ecological footprint. An impactful avenue we’ve identified for effecting positive change is through a significant overhaul of our packaging strategies. This not only aligns with our commitment to responsible business practices but also presents multifaceted benefits, both environmentally and for our company’s profitability.

A cornerstone of our sustainability initiative involves a strategic reduction in the size of our product packaging. By meticulously reevaluating the dimensions, we aim to achieve an optimal balance between protection and resource conservation. This not only contributes to minimising the use of materials but also translates to a reduction in overall packaging waste.

In tandem with size reduction, we are actively phasing out plastic windows and product holders from our packaging where possible. This deliberate move is rooted in our dedication to curbing plastic usage and its associated environmental impact. By adopting alternative, eco-friendly materials, we contribute to the global effort to reduce plastic pollution and promote a circular economy.

Reducing the size of our packaging has far-reaching implications for our logistical operations. A streamlined packaging design translates to more efficient use of space within shipping containers. This optimization allows us to increase the volume of products shipped in a single container or box, leading to a reduction in transportation-related carbon emissions. Additionally, the cost savings resulting from enhanced shipping efficiency positively impact our company’s profitability.

While our primary focus is on environmental stewardship, the transition to more sustainable packaging inherently brings economic advantages. Reduced material usage, enhanced shipping efficiency, and heightened consumer appeal collectively contribute to improved cost-effectiveness and, consequently, bolster our company’s profitability.

4.c. Waste Management

We have established a partnership with VEOLIA, a reputable recycling and waste management company. Collaborating with them enables us to efficiently manage and recycle the waste generated by our business operations. By leveraging VEOLIA’s expertise, we prioritise the secure disposal of waste, aiming to extract the maximum value from recyclable materials. Through this partnership, we strive to minimise the environmental footprint associated with our waste disposal practices in a cost-effective and sustainable manner.

5. Social Responsibility

5.a. Fair Labour

As a conscientious business committed to ethical practices, ensuring fair labour conditions throughout our supply chain is paramount to our core values. We are dedicated to fostering a transparent and accountable relationship with our suppliers, conducting regular assessments to verify compliance with international labour standards. Collaborating closely with our suppliers, we emphasise the importance of fair wages, safe working conditions, and the protection of workers’ rights. By integrating fair labour considerations into our sourcing decisions, we aim to cultivate a supply chain characterised by dignity, equality, and respect for the individuals contributing to our business success. This commitment not only reflects our ethical responsibility but also enhances the overall sustainability and resilience of our operations.

6. Consideration

6.a. Long Term Value

Integrating sustainability into our business model is a strategic move that transcends short-term gains, setting the foundation for enduring long-term value. By prioritising environmentally responsible practices, we align our operations with the growing global emphasis on sustainability, meeting the evolving expectations of consumers, investors, and regulators. This proactive approach not only mitigates environmental impact but also fosters resilience in the face of changing market dynamics. Sustainable practices, whether in resource management, product innovation, or supply chain efficiency, often lead to cost savings and operational efficiencies over time. Furthermore, as societal awareness and preferences shift toward eco-conscious choices, our commitment to sustainability enhances brand loyalty and customer trust, establishing a positive reputation that can withstand the test of time. Ultimately, integrating sustainability into our business model is an investment in both environmental stewardship and the enduring success and relevance of our business in a rapidly changing world.

6.b. Financial Impact

The implementation of our sustainability initiatives, such as transitioning to an electric fleet, redesigning packaging, and dedicating resources and responsibilities to uphold sustainability standards, will undoubtedly incur significant upfront financial costs. However, it’s important to note that the majority of these expenditures will primarily impact short-term cash flow. The strategic investments made in sustainable practices are anticipated to yield substantial long-term gains, positively influencing our overall profitability. By aligning our business with eco-friendly and socially responsible practices, we aim to not only mitigate environmental impact but also secure enduring financial benefits and contribute to the long-term viability and success of our company.

6.c. Sustainable Materials

In our pursuit of expanding our range of proprietary products, we remain steadfast in our commitment to sourcing the most sustainable materials available. Currently, silicone materials stand out as a frontrunner in this sector due to their synthetic nature. Simultaneously, we are investing resources in exploring the utilisation of recycled plastics derived from ocean waste. Although the current infrastructure presents challenges in moulding these materials into the desired shapes and products, we remain dedicated to ongoing research and development in this area. Our ultimate aspiration is to see a future where all our products are crafted from recycled materials, contributing to a circular economy and minimising our environmental footprint.

7. Supply Chain

7.a. Responsible Supply Chain

We recognize the pivotal role that our suppliers play in shaping the environmental and ethical footprint of our supply chain. To ensure responsible and ethical practices, we conduct assessments of our suppliers, evaluating their adherence to international standards and ethical principles. These assessments encompass various aspects, including labour conditions, environmental impact, and adherence to fair trade practices.

Collaborating closely with our suppliers, we foster a transparent and accountable relationship, encouraging continuous improvement in their sustainability practices. Through these efforts, we aim to cultivate a responsible and ethical supply chain that not only aligns with our core values but also meets the evolving expectations of our stakeholders. This commitment reflects our dedication to not only delivering quality products but also contributing to a global community where ethical and sustainable business practices are paramount.

7.b. Sustainable Sourcing

We recognize that forging strong partnerships is fundamental to achieving our sustainability goals. By working closely with our suppliers, we aim to integrate eco-friendly and ethical sourcing practices into our supply chain. This collaboration involves transparent communication, mutual goal-setting, and the exploration of innovative approaches to reduce environmental impact. These include circular economy practices, green packaging solutions, carbon offset programs and product life cycle assessment.

Together with our suppliers, we strive to identify sustainable sourcing alternatives, promote fair labour practices, and minimise our collective ecological footprint. This collaborative effort not only ensures the integrity of our products but also contributes to a more sustainable and ethical global supply chain.

8. Reporting

To effectively track our sustainability goals, we have strategically developed key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with our overarching objectives, specifically targeting the reduction of carbon emissions, waste reduction, and the enhancement of social responsibility. These KPIs serve as measurable benchmarks that enable us to assess our progress in a tangible and quantifiable manner.

Our commitment to transparency and accountability is exemplified through our initiative to create an annual sustainability report. This document will serve as a consolidated overview of our sustainability journey, detailing the achievements and milestones reached in alignment with our sustainability strategy. The report will not only highlight the targets successfully met but will also provide valuable insights into the challenges faced and the strategies employed to overcome them.

We aim to foster open communication with our stakeholders, including customers, employees, and the broader community. By sharing the tangible outcomes of our sustainability efforts, we seek to build trust and demonstrate our dedication to responsible business practices.

9. Employee Engagement

Net1on1 Wholesale Limited is dedicated to cultivating a sustainable work environment by actively engaging and educating employees in comprehensive sustainability initiatives. Through targeted training programs and awareness campaigns, we empower our workforce with the knowledge and skills necessary to embrace and contribute to our sustainability goals. These initiatives cover a spectrum of topics, including energy conservation, waste reduction, and ethical sourcing, fostering a deep understanding of the interconnectedness between individual actions and overall environmental impact.

In line with our commitment to sustainability, we are actively working to foster a culture within the organisation that prioritises environmental responsibility. This involves creating a workplace ethos where sustainability is ingrained in daily operations and decision-making processes. By encouraging employees to adopt sustainable practices in their professional and personal lives, we aim to create a collective consciousness that extends beyond the workplace.

10. Continuous Improvement

Our commitment to sustainability is unwavering, and we embrace a philosophy of continuous improvement to propel us towards a more eco-conscious future. A key facet of this dedication involves leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of our operations. By utilising innovative technologies, we aim to optimise resources, reduce energy consumption, and streamline processes, thereby minimising our overall environmental footprint.

Simultaneously, our commitment extends to the meticulous evaluation and adoption of sustainable materials. We actively seek eco-friendly alternatives that align with our product development and packaging strategies. Whether it’s exploring recycled materials, biodegradable options, or responsibly sourced inputs, we aspire to integrate sustainable materials into our supply chain, contributing to a circular economy.

Recognizing the dynamic nature of markets, we stay attuned to shifts in consumer preferences and broader market trends related to sustainability. This proactive approach allows us to adapt our strategies to meet evolving expectations and capitalise on emerging opportunities. By aligning our products and practices with market shifts towards sustainability, we not only meet consumer demands but also position ourselves as leaders in the eco-conscious business landscape.

Through this tripartite approach of technology integration, sustainable material adoption, and market responsiveness, Net1on1 Wholesale Limited remains dedicated to achieving continuous improvement in sustainability. This iterative process ensures that our business evolves in tandem with the latest advancements, thereby reinforcing our commitment to environmental responsibility and contributing to a more sustainable future.
